Vic Salazar has been delivering the news since he was 12. That's when he got his first paper route. In 1990, he joined NBC 7/39 as the station's weekend anchor and is currently the weeknight anchor for the CW News at 10, a newscast produced by NBC 7/39. Vic is no stranger to the issues facing this community. He is a graduate of Mt. Miguel High School in Spring Valley, and started his news career at KGTV in 1982. It was during a six-year long stint at the NBC station in Bakersfield where Vic had the opportunity to cover UFW leader Cesar Chavez. The interviews were frequent: on farms from Arvin to Buttonwillow, at UFW headquarters in Keene and during Chavez's historical fast in Delano. As a young reporter, Vic was impressed with the gracious manner in which Chavez dealt with the media and the passion the union leader demonstrated for his cause. Because of his professional and personal interaction with Cesar Chavez, Vic has proudly accepted the Commemorative Committee's invitations in the past to not only serve as Master of Ceremonies, but also as the Grand Marshal for our Parade. Vic graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies.
